The Microsoft Store or Windows App Store, is awesome. And here's why:

App stores, or binary repositories, have been a part of the operating system world for over 2 decades. Just, maybe not a mainstream one.

Linux, my favorite OS, has had binary repositories (repos) for ever. Or at least, for over 2 decades. Needed a library? Find it in the repo. Need a game? Repo. Updates? Repo. All your software in a centralized place. From Firefox updates to system updates everything was in the "software center" of your Linux distribution.
Sure, you could Google search your program, but why? That seems like a lot of work finding the one you want. Not to mention the risk of getting a virus riddled application.

Apple saw the success and genius of a software repository when they rebuilt MacOS with Mac OSX. And it's been an integral part of their OS ever since. Not that they ever give any credit back to the source, but that's a different issue.

With Windows 8, Windows is finally trying to get into the software repository business. Now, "We're 4 years into Windows 10, why you decide to do a post on the Windows App Store now??" Because it's finally starting to work.

So, the now Microsoft Store, is being used to distribute driver updates, built-in app updates(such as calculator and Edge browser), and has very handy enterprise features.

A business can use the Microsoft Store to distribute their own programs, block access to certain programs, or even give certain users access to certain programs and not others. Need some users to use QuickBooks and not others? Easy, give those users their own AD group and give that AD group access to QuickBooks.

And one of the best parts? Automatic updates that actually work. Yes, I know, neither Microsoft nor Apple have a very good track record with updates. But, getting all my programs updated automatically is awesome. If I installed an app from the Store, then I know I won't have to worry about an update pop-up when I actually try to use that app. Which is awesome.

If I could use the Microsoft store for everything. Firefox, Malwarebytes Anti-malware, R-Studio, third-party drivers(such as an Intel or AMD driver update), if I could do that, I would be very happy.

And that is why the Microsoft Store is awesome, cause it has the potential to be the one stop shop for all your software. I just hope it actually does.
